Old Saws, Fresh Sauce

OLD SAWS, FRESH SAUCE

All play and no work makes Jack unemployed.

The path to Heaven is cratered with bad intentions.

A thousand words do not paint a picture.

Study the past in order to break with the past.

He who builds the future without regard for the past is like one who looks into the mirror and promptly forgets what he sees.

You can have your cake and eat it, too, not the other way around.

A friend in deed is a friend indeed.

When a pot fails to boil, turn up the heat.

Tend to a boiling pot lest it overflow.

A leap to safety is not guaranteed by a look.

In a street fight a sword is mightier than a pen.

Whoever said a dog’s bark is worse than his bite hasn’t been bitten.

Good governance is hard to find.

A penny invested is a penny gambled.

A good book is a good friend you engage again and again.

He who does not take a stand sits on his rights.

The heart makes up its reasons.

Charity culminates in humanity.
